Guilmette Baghdadi

Guilmette Baghdadi is a visionary artist whose work transcends the boundaries of architecture, sculpture, and painting, bringing together decades of expertise and a rich multicultural background. With Iranian roots, born in North Africa, and educated in France, Guilmette’s life story is a tapestry as intricate as her art. Her architectural mastery, honed as an Architect DPLG and Dipl.Ing., pairs seamlessly with her rigorous artistic training at the Beaux-Arts de Grenoble, where she studied under the mentorship of Simone Magnan, second Grand Prix de Rome in 1954.

What distinguishes Guilmette's work is her profound pursuit of simplicity and purity in form. Her minimalist color palettes and symbolic gestures evoke deep emotions and awaken the senses. These artistic choices reflect her spirituality, rooted in the Baha’i faith, through themes of unity, equality, and the development of virtues. Guilmette’s sculptures elegantly explore the human form, celebrating its movement and beauty while carrying a poignant message of humanity's spiritual essence.

Her accolades speak volumes—from her exhibitions across the United States, Switzerland, Great Britain, France, and Italy, to the Salon International d’Art Contemporain at the Carrousel du Louvre, where she showcased her work in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Recently, she was honored by the Académie des Arts, Sciences et Lettres of Paris in 2023, underscoring her artistic excellence. Beyond creating, Guilmette shares her expertise as an art therapist and soapstone instructor, further extending her impact on the world of art and healing.

Artist about her work: “My artworks embraces Minimalism to invite viewers to explore deeply, letting their imagination weave the story. I concentrate on themes such as Profiles, Rhythm and Movement, Hearts, and Academic Design. In recent years, I’ve been focusing on painting with just two colors, with gold being a constant element. My inspirations come from the books I read, simple observations, world events, personal experiences, and commissions. I aim to capture beauty, the divine, and a sense of connection, painting what I feel. I hope my work evokes positive emotions, joy, and uplifting thoughts.”
