Rob Chevallier

Rob Chevallier was born in 1957 in Oss, the Netherlands, and currently lives and works in Steenderen, the Netherlands.

He studied graphic design at the Art Academy in Arnhem. Since 2006, he has been active as a photographer in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. In 2017, he expanded his artistic practice to include photo-based objects and installations, further developing a multidisciplinary approach.

Chevallier’s work encompasses mixed-media photography, objects, and large-scale installations, with a strong focus on climate change, nature conservation, and sustainability. Through poetic yet critical visual language, his work aims to raise awareness of environmental urgency and humanity’s relationship with nature.

Recent highlights include the EuropeArtFair Amsterdam 2024, where he was awarded the 2nd Prize (Jury Award) in September 2024. He is a represented artist at Gabriel Fine Arts Gallery and exhibited with the gallery at Art3F Brussels at Brussels Expo in November 2024. In 2025, he participated in Volta Basel and presented a video project featuring seven installations addressing climate change, exhibited in The Hague.

His exhibition history includes participation in the Artist Meeting at the Knokke Art Fair, the Climate Expo at the National Museum Muiderslot in Muiden, and earlier presentations at the Dutch Climate Expo in Zwolle, CODA Museum in Apeldoorn, IJsselbiënnale, Zandvoort Museum, the Watermuseum in Arnhem, and Museum Energeticon in Aachen (2018–2023).

Chevallier’s work has been widely featured in publications, including Artlo Magazine (Issue 5, December 2025–February 2026), Aatonau Contemporary Art Magazine (review, 2025), and Spotlight Magazine USA (Issue 41, 2025), where his work The Nitrogen Tree was highlighted. His portfolio was published by Rob Chevallier Portfolio (PDF download, 2024).

Upcoming projects include a solo exhibition in New York in May 2026.

His works are held in private collections throughout Europe.

Artist about his work: “It is becoming increasingly clear that we are approaching the limits of our Western way of life. Nitrogen pollution, CO₂ emissions, climate change, and other environmental crises reveal how vulnerable nature has become. Overconsumption and ever-increasing energy use are rapidly depleting natural resources, yet a lasting awareness of the need for a more sustainable way of living still seems insufficiently embedded in our daily reality.

Through my art, I aim to contribute to this ongoing awareness process. This intention is reflected both in the conceptual themes of my work and in my choice of materials. I frequently work with recycled and reused elements, allowing material and message to reinforce one another. My practice explores the fragile balance between humanity and nature, inviting reflection on responsibility, sustainability, and the urgency of change.“
